Should you find yourself in a ‘crisis’ situation,' you need to be prepared. Here is brief list of do’s and don’ts when dealing with the media:
- Don’t say no comment. Do say & keep your promise: we are currently looking into the situation and will release our findings in the very near future.
- Don’t get caught up in offering too much information. Do keep to key message(s) that you developed during media training.
- Don’t get into an argument with a member of the media. Do stay calm and professional…always.
- Don’t buy into the ‘off-the-record’ tactic. Do assume you are always ‘on’ the record when involved in an interview with the press.
- Don’t lie. Do tell the truth always.
- Don’t assume you know how to communicate with the media. Do sign on with a professional media trainer.
