Should you find yourself in a ‘crisis’ situation,'  you need to be prepared.  Here is brief list of do’s and don’ts when dealing with the media:

  1. Don’t say no comment.  Do say & keep your promise:  we are currently looking into the situation and will release our findings in the very near future.

  2. Don’t get caught up in offering too much information.  Do keep to key  message(s) that you developed during media training.

  3. Don’t get into an argument with a member of the media.  Do stay calm and professional…always.

  4. Don’t buy into the ‘off-the-record’ tactic.  Do assume you are always ‘on’ the record when involved in an interview with the press.

  5. Don’t lie.  Do tell the truth – always.

  6. Don’t assume you know how to communicate with the media.  Do sign on with a professional  media trainer.
